Signal, while is End-to-End encrypted and cool, but it requires the central server. If the government shuts down the internet, you can’t organize your protest
But Briar does not require a central server and lets you connect via internet (via tor), bluetooth, or share between devices connected to the same wifi.
Imagine a protest where everyone is using Brair (and have added everyone as contacts), they could create a forum and one message from one end of the street can travel across the entire swarm of protesters, doesn’t matter if the government shut down the internet.
(I mean… at least until they figure out what y’all are doing and they start jamming bluetooth signals… 🤔 but even then, jammers have limited range, especially at the bluetooth spectrum)
All data is on your device (and all other devices the forum is shared with), there is no central server to take down content.
Isn’t that basically what signal already does or is there something I should know about signal?
No.

Don’t take your phone to protests.
