    Senator Rand Paul said something similar earlier.

When (President William) McKinley most famously put tariffs on in 1890, they lost 50% of their seats in the next election,” Paul told reporters a day after Trump’s announcement, later adding “So they’re not only bad economically; they’re bad politically.”

        McKinley is actually Trump’s idol. On his very first day back in office one of his first EOs was to rename Mount Denali to Mount McKinley. it isn’t a coincidence that Trump also loves tariffs.
