Khalil, 30, was the first international student arrested in recent weeks amid an unprecedented crackdown by federal immigration authorities.
A federal judge on Friday ruled that the Trump administration can deport Columbia University graduate student Mahmoud Khalil just a month after his arrest prompted national outrage and marked the start of the federal government’s broader crackdown on foreign students.
Khalil has until April 23 to file for relief.
In his ruling the judge said, “the court will sustain charge of removability.”
Columbia university has been complicit with these actions and other actions by ice against employees and students.
I no longer view them as a place of higher education. Their participation in these acts goes against the values of free thought which is requisite in the pursuit of knowledge.
I advise anyone seeking education or employment at Columbia to rethink their goals and values.
