Yeah, I joined the Marines in 2009 and we were the first class at PI to do the Combat Fitness Test. But there’s that word again, and it ends up being another PFT. Even I could 300 the CFT and I was never a PFT stud, just pretty good. But neither tested my mettle like walking really far with a bunch of shit on my back or not sleeping.
Personally, fitness tests is a fitness test and has nothing to do with combat. I’ll always remember our company high PFT in SOI dropping out of the 25k hump. The guy who literally “set the standard” by being the fastest and doing the most pullups was on the ground saying he couldn’t walk. Nice kid, but toughness doesn’t necessarily equate with fitness.
And once I got to my unit I decided there were plenty of Marines who didn’t belong there, and that there were women who could probably outdo them. Of course, this warred with my desire to walk around in my silkies and make homoerotic jokes with my buddies, but perhaps that’s not the whole point.
Unfortunately it’s necessary, or you get people running experiments on children. We just can’t seem to rely on people to do the right thing, or perhaps they lose sight of it. Tunnel vision is real.
Yeah, otherwise you get some real assholes doing experiments on pregnant women and twins.
I think it’s a discussion worth having, so long as both sides realize there needs to be lines drawn.
I have. In the past couple weeks I’ve had to bring up multiple times how the opinion on Reddit six years ago, when Tencent invested, was concern that China would begin to sway the opinions on the site. Fast forward and here I am reminding folks of that as they ostensibly shill for China. It’s complete insanity.
My recollection is very hazy, it was such a technological blip.
Not just that, you’d hold the button so your portable CD player wouldn’t recognize the door was open while playing, and you’d write on the disc as it was playing and get perfect circles on a variety of colors. That was how you have people sweet mixes.
Not exactly this one, but I remember the old PC had 5.25 and 3.5", and the power was a big red switch, felt like you were juicing up the grid.
I remember buying a stack of CDs only to find out they were +R, not -R, and this utterly useless (or something like that, can’t specifically recall whether ±R/RW).
So maybe to unbreak it just a little, the picture is some AI drawing of an actual woman, a convicted fentanyl trafficker. I just don’t understand why the cartoon.
Probably because I share accounts with people and they’re doing it to spite me.
Thanks, for some reason I was thinking Cronos, I dunno.
And yeah, I remember reading that joke what feels like 20 years ago at this point, someone put it in the ebaums forums, took like 20 separate posts because of char limits, and I couldn’t stop telling the joke to people after that, it’s just too perfect.
You know, I watched that show Netflix canceled, with Jeff Goldblum, and so I’m like, hey, that’s right! Sure, could’ve paid attention in school, but better Nate than lever.
For sure, Google tells me there’s only 21.2T USD in circulation.
You’ve never been allowed to bring raw eggs of any kind across the border. I’m sure you can declare to do so and make arrangements for it, but I can’t show up at the border and bring eggs over, that’s always been the case.
I suppose you are right, in that it’s not the egg that’s illegal, but the action of bringing it over the border.
Does that count here and on Reddit? Although I’ll say here on Lemmy, folks are much more open to actual dialogue than on Reddit.
UCMJ obliges members of the armed forces to not obey unlawful orders. Problem is they don’t teach law when you’re in, and some of this shit can get awfully complicated, and that’s excepting the mountains of propaganda.
That’s being said, we are fortunately not yet seeing the military of the US being used to suppress American citizens. But maybe tomorrow!
It’s cool, I love Smedley as well, greatest Marine ever.
