Voting May be easy where you are. But it’s literally made difficult in a lot of places. If you are new to Texas for example, getting registered to vote is a whole ordeal. It involves ancient websites to check your registration status and then if you find out you aren’t registered, you have to go to another website, fill out a bunch of information and then you have to print it out, sign it and then mail it in. And if you made any mistakes you won’t find out for 10-15 days as the mail has to get to them, they have to look it over and then they mail you a response to tell you there are errors. On top of all of that, they have a system where they pay people to report voter registration that are suspected to be fraudulent and those registrations generally get purged without notifying the voter. So if you were a false positive (many people are) and then you find out the day you go to vote that you aren’t registered, you just don’t get to vote that year.

  • Is this one of those both parties same things? Because one party is literally pushing dictatorship. I don’t subscribe to that nonsense in our current system. Kamala Harris, for all her faults, would not be deporting brown people, taking away benefits for the poor, lowing the taxes on the rich, and literally handing money to corporations by the fistful. Both parties suck. But one is clearly worse.

  • We already have minimum ages higher than 19… Also tech literacy is massively important when the law writing bodies are writing laws about tech. Most of our modern laws are anchored in tech that 60 year old, life long politicians just don’t know anything about. Also term limits are a separate issue from age entirely. I don’t think any government position should be life time appointment and I definitely don’t think that a government position should give you any real financial advantage over anyone else in the country. Government jobs should just be jobs like every other salary position in the country. It should also come with restrictions on stock trading and anything else that corrupts. That’s why I suggest a jury system for an ethics review board.

  • This is a little bit dishonest. It’s not about the length of time you support a party but how much general support they have. You absolutely should support third party and grow the voter base on local and state and even push for larger support. But the spoiler effect is very real. In major elections where voting third party will elect the individuals most likely to harm you and your lifestyle in the most severe ways, and it is extremely obvious that third party has no real horse in the game, you hurt more than yourself. I agree Dems either need to figure their shit out and cut out the cancer or they need to get the fuck out of the way, but until third party candidates stand a real chance at national change for good, i will only be voting for them in elections they either stand a chance in or where showing support for them will help grow the voter base while limiting harm. Mid terms, vote 3pt. Primaries, vote 3pt. General election? Vote to minimize harm while maintaining a potential win.

  • It’s absolutely an age issue. When was the last time you met someone over the age of 60 who was both good with computers and technology in general and also has never worked in the tech industry? Id also love to see the number of government elected officials who have ever suffered any sort of real poverty and compare their ages to their peers. I guarantee that spreadsheet alone tells a novel.

I want to see an enforced retirement age, a maximum age for first time election, and a strict term limit for all positions of government. I would also love to see all elected and appointed officials stripped of the right to financial privacy and a sort of jury system of a quarterly ethics board made up of citizens chosen at random to make review decisions on official government actions.

It’s time citizens had more control over our government. They are employed by our tax dollars after all.

  • It’s not as simple as leaving the country. Not everyone has a passport here. And the vast majority of Americans cannot afford to up end their lives and skip town let alone move to another country entirely. Then it comes to which country to move to. Most countries have requirements for visa entry. If you intend on staying permanently, you have to meet even stricter requirements like higher education, and even then, they won’t permit your visa if you aren’t in a field that would do good for their country. Some places may have a program similar to America’s H1B visa where you can get a job and work in that job to stay in the country but then your livelihood is at the mercy of a stranger in a foreign land letting you keep your job until you can convince the government to give you citizenship. You don’t just move to another country. And anyone who can just move to another country is exceedingly privileged.

  • If you haven’t shot a fascist yet, you’re one of the Germans that let Nazis happen. Stop calling for other people to fight, you fucking cowards. Go fight for yourselves.

    Also:

I’m American and will not be flying across the country to throw my life away.

I’m just pointing out what you literally said in your initial comment. You said everyone who doesn’t fight but is calling for violence is letting the Nazi’s happen. Then you proceeded to say you are also not going to fight them… Also you said you weren’t going to use insults and then proceeded to throw the word coward in there without knowing anything about me. You don’t get to be a hypocrite and then be upset when your hypocrisy is pointed out. I’m not saying you should go fight, you clearly have your reasons not to, but you yourself just said that you can’t call for violence while not fighting.
