Even the folks who had no intention of buying one can contribute to that public sentiment, and as long as that social backlash remains, it’ll be effective at dissuading people from buying them.

The amount of money that’s paid out for this is pitiful in comparison to how much you’d need to actually feel compensated. It’s $50k-$100k per year of imprisonment (depending on state and length of imprisonment), so for 20 years you’re getting (in most states) $2 million or so, but then you’re charged for services rendered while you were imprisoned in most states - for example, health insurance, room and board, etc., which severely reduce that value. Even if you got the full $2 million, you’ve lost 20 years - and the career development you would have had during that time - not to mention technology has likely completely moved on from what you remember. Good luck getting anything more than a minimum wage job at that point, and $2 million is not going to last you for the rest of your life unless you were already 50 or so when you were convicted.

To be clear, I agree with you that people falsely convicted should be monetarily compensated. Just pointing out that current compensation is embarrassingly low.

I don’t think he cares. He doesn’t give a shit about the US, or how much damage he causes. He only cares about himself, and maybe a few of his associates, maybe, though I’d wager that caring only extends so far as they continue to act sycophantic. He’d turn on them in an instant if they stopped playing into his ego.

If another country’s leader was pulling this shit against the US, we’d have arranged for their leader to be deposed, or to fall down some stairs, or for a coup to occur, or something. If only some other country would do the same now.

It’s really just frustrating. I want to take action. I’m motivated. I have the means to do it, I just don’t know what to do, or how. So I see posts that boil down to “It’s easy, just go organize at the capital!” and like… I’d love to do that, but if you have experience with this sort of thing, what do I do, specifically, to make a difference? We’re well beyond the point where “Call your congressman!” makes a difference. We need something immediate. Every day, shit’s getting worse, and the “Just vote in 2026!” crowd are far more optimistic than I am; I think we’re already past the point where there’s been irreparable damage and it’s been two fucking months.

Anyway, this is really just a rant, and to be clear, I’m not upset at you or anyone else in this thread. I’m just upset in general, and I don’t know what to do about it.

I would love to be proven wrong, but I don’t think we can sustain a lengthy protest this time. I think as soon as there’s a hint of actual substantive action, Trump is going to throw his entire being into quashing it. I think he’s hoping it happens, honestly, so he can try to flex his authoritarian muscles.

Personally I think whatever happens needs to start and end relatively quickly. Holding signs and chanting isn’t going to get this done.
