I think, ultimately, the fate of any non-federated social network to eventually become another tool of the ruling class is simply a function of the hierarchical nature of the capitalist system. Surely, middle income households are not as effected as those earning minimum wage, just like high income households does not face the same challenges as those of middle income. Yes, all things become more expensive, but only some have to worry about basic sustenance.
