Better Plan: vote in representatives that represent you, and stop listening to those that make you feel warm and fuzzy. But, this is a harder plan. Requires the majority of voters to, you know, try.

“R-Word” is a ridiculous over correction. It demeans the reason why “N-Word” exists. We collectively said the N-Word is out of bounds because it’s the very least anyone can do given historical events that continue to resonate to this very day (god dammit). Now the Internet thinks “R-Word” is a good idea. Why? The word is “Retard.” It’s okay to say retard. What’s not okay is demeaning people by calling them any derogatory term, and blacklisting words thinking that will somehow correct the problem is the height of hubris – as if there are no other suitable replacements. It’s an attempt to take a shortcut to a societal problem. It is, in a word, retarded (you can look up the definition in a dictionary and see it’s an appropriate usage).

I think it’s pretty much expected that if you go to a place of worship that the leader of that place may tell you “truths” that you may not want to hear, but that they feel their religious doctrine demands be said to make the world a better place (whether one disagrees or not). Hardly audacious or unheard of.
In their defense, if there were ever someone that Christians needed to pray for (so that they change their ways) it’d be Donald “I’m a very stable genius” Trump. Somehow I doubt that was foremost on their minds. Probably more “may You bless us and give us great blessings as we spread Your word and see Your will be done [which happens to be whatever the hell we say it is, even if it directly contradicts the Bible].”
It’s called “laying on hands” among Christians. As in, “let us lay on hands and pray for them.” In theory it should be a way of showing support that someone is not alone. Usually, I’d attribute it more to religious people doing a silent ‘look at me, I have a direct line to God for this person!’ [Like you said, they’re so in the moment they pull out their phone; yeah, that screams holy moment.] Which is funny because Protestants think everyone has a personal relationship with God, so what’s the extra prayer for? In case God wasn’t listening to the requestor, but they might listen to Ultra Religious person? Doesn’t sound very personal to me.
Screw the “don’t rock the boat” candidates… unless they’re the only option compared to the “let’s destroy America!” candidate on the other side.
Not rocking the boat is better than setting the country on fire for no goddamn reason (if the system were burning down with a reasonable expectation we could make it better that’d be arguably different). I’m sure there are plenty that feel smugly superior for having “protested” by not voting, and I trust you don’t mind the whole “country’s on fire” thing going on (insert “this is fine” meme).
