  • Democrats aren’t generally pro taxing the rich or deviating significantly on many issues since Clinton and the 90s. Yes, some of the squad said that they were pro-taxing the rich when they knew that there was no possibility of it being brought to a vote and the Democrats maintained a pretend opposition to the extreme violations of civil rights in the war on terror or ICE deportations. But after Obama, the most extreme and worst excesses of the war on terror were bipartisan, and after Biden all ICE and immigration policies were fully bipartisan (he continued the obviously facetious use of COVID as a terrible, contagious disease to deny asylum seekers, just as Trump did, after saying COVID was over, and continued deportations and putting immigrants in ICE concentration camps, when 4 years prior Democrats could understand that was fascist). That is why the left hates Democrats. Because the two-party system means the Democrats can absorb all opposition to the Republicans, while continuing all of their policies and claiming that wanting any movement to the left/away from fascism is only helping the Republicans. That we should just continue the Republican’s policies, but it is fine because Obama is going to file the paperwork correctly to send Arabs to blacksites or Biden is going to file the paperwork correctly to do ICE deportations at a greater rate than Trump [term 1] or genocide in Gaza. The Democrats are above criticism and should be allowed to do fascist immigration policy or genocide.

  • There are still veto points and lawsuits to be made. Along with the more vocal opposition that you admit that they should engage in. It is neither that they could perfectly stop everything, but that they could actually start trying. The Democrats decided that they should sit back because if Trump fucks things up enough, they will have an easy time in 2026/2028, without changing their usual platform of “We are not the Republicans, we will give you nothing else”.

  • The Democrats have put every marginalized person in danger. Fascism doesn’t come out of nowhere and doesn’t thrive in real opposition. We are constantly relearning the lesson from the 1930s, there is no such thing as liberal anti-fascism. The Democrats decided not to oppose fascism, but to use it as an excuse to stop offering anything to voters other than moving right and being slightly more polite than Republicans.

Their entire existence is to absorb all opposition to Republicans by being the only alternative, but not actually having any non-right wing positions.

  • The Republicans seem to be able to stop a lot of things, especially if the opposing party not only doesn’t control every branch of government, but doesn’t have a 60+ majority of the senate with a comfortable margin to write off the {Manchins, Sinemas, Libermans, etc.}. But now suddenly a minority party can’t stop their opponents from doing things, even if it is blatantly unconstitutional? It seems like the Democrats are never playing to win.

In reality, the Democrats want this all to continue, because if Trump fucks things up enough and destroys things enough, the Democrats only appeal of “we aren’t the Republicans” can for once, become a winning strategy in 2026/2028.
