Yeah, there was already established law to prevent him from running for president. It got ignored. He ran anyway. He won anyway. He became president anyway.
Any of these legal mechanisms only work if they are upheld.

I think you’re missing the point. Personally, when I watch those movies, I think about whether the guard who just got turned into a parapalegic was just an ex-military guy who picked up a security job. For that matter, I wonder about how many people joined the German military in 1932, with no idea what their country would become. They still had to be fought through to affect the leader. Yes, any given grunt, any given infantry, is hurt considerably more than the big fish, but the way of the world is that a lot of little fish must suffer before the big fish feels it.
Not every big fish can be luigi-ed. Some have a security detail.
You know in those movies where the hero has to beat the living hell from a thousand grunts before they are able to get at the boss? And you don’t feel too bad for the grunts, even though they’re not millionaires or the guys doing the big evil stuff, because they chose to align themselves with a villain like the boss?
It’s kind of like that. If people don’t want to own a Tesla because they’ll be targeted for aligning themselves with Musk, Tesla’s stock goes down, which hurts the boss.
I’m not saying I support it (and I’m not saying I don’t), but saying that this is hurting the Working Class and not the real Bad Guy is missing the point.
The Trail of Tears was always taught to me as a black spot in our history, a horrible thing that we (the United States) did to natives.
Can’t you setup a structure where people from both sides would together commit to voting third-party?
Can’t really do that with a First-Past-The-Post system because someone needs to get past the post. If there are four major parties (left and right both have significant numbers voting 3rd party), there would ultimately have to be a coalition or two that just ends up being the Republicans and Democrats all over again.
The system itself has to be changed first, and the two parties who benefit from there only being two parties aren’t going to change it to allow for that.
I live in Alaska, and if nobody was talking about the eggs thing I wouldn’t have had more of a thought about it than “huh, eggs are a little expensive right now. Or are they? Have they always been this expensive?”
For reference, eggs here are $10-$11 a dozen. And for extra reference, a regular sized container of strawberries fluctuates between $5 and $12, and a carton of ice cream (e.g. Dreyer’s) is generally around $12 if it’s not on sale.
The thing is, around here people just… shift what they buy mostly. Strawberries are expensive? Time to buy apples. Ice cream is expensive? Wait to buy until it’s on sale, then buy 8. Bread is only $4.50 a loaf? HOLY SHIT, FILL HALF THE FREEZER.
I’m not trying to minimize the issue. There are lots of people who specifically need eggs (e.g. bakers), but for the most part, I feel like this is some weird hyper-fixation. This feels like toilet paper at the beginning of the pandemic.
To egg distributors: sell more 6-packs. Outside of baking, I just don’t think normal people need that many eggs.
I feel like you’re missing the reference we’re making.
Gaston:
When I was a lad I ate four dozen eggs
Ev’ry morning to help me get large
And now that I’m grown I eat five dozen eggs
So I’m roughly the size of a barge
Okay, but how are your expectorating skills? Can anybody spit like you?
With a diet like that he’d be roughly the size of a barge!
But AI had expert timing.
Excellent. I’d vote for him (over the other two, at least).
Hey, President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Camacho was a fantastic president. He recognized his own limitations and set the man who, by objective testing, was the smartest in the country, to fix the biggest problem facing his constituents.
We could use a President Camacho.
Great reason to get rid of the dumb archaic practice in the first place. I repeatedly told my wife she shouldn’t feel any pressure to take my name. She did anyway, but I think it was just because she liked it more.
Anyway, sacrificing your ability to vote in order to take your husbands last name might have the oh so unfortunate side effect of keeping trad wives from voting.
Because it’s death. The best case scenario is no or limited anticipation, with no physical pain or suffering. The alternative is taking several minutes, hours, or days to die, with each breath being agony. “At least” pretty directly says it is the least you could hope for, given the circumstances.
Even with my youngest (5), I would always use the bathroom early and check to see if they had a changing station prior to him potentially pooping himself. The majority of the time there was, but the times there wasn’t was often enough to make it worth checking. Only if my wife was with us, though, otherwise it was a roll of the dice.
Technically an amendment to the constitution, the third section of the 14th amendment, that nobody who has engaged or helped an insurrection can hold office in the government or military (except with a 2/3 majority of congress).
