We were going to start mining lithium and rare earth metals, but the Trump administration reversed the approval. The Salton Sea is the skeleton in California’s closet, so turning it into anything OTHER than an agricultural runoff pit is preferable. The area is largely abandoned and highly polluted. It’s a massive artificial lake that receded while simultaneously being filled with runoff. Before it got that bad, it was treated like Lake Havasu.
If it came from an environmentalist, it would make more sense, but because it’s Trump, it was a “fuck California”, thing. I really like the Salton Sea even though it’s stinky, so I was curious if it was going to repopulate. It’s not that bad in the south, but in the north, it’s BAD.
That’s a really good point, but I haven’t looked into the extraction methods yet. I’m not sure if that will be implemented. Finding information is difficult. Hopefully, it will. Power, too, you.
