As a boomer, reading this thread/discussion has been so amusing in many ways while enjoying my cuppa tea this morning. A classic “the younger generations are stupid.”
The older generations looking down the ones that follow. And the following generations looking down on those that precede them. And no one understanding ain’t none of us are all that bright.
Ever has it been, and so ever shall it be.
That’s what most people don’t get about investing-- there is money to be made in both market directions. The rich understand that.
That isn’t ready for common use by most people until there they offer binaries for easy installation.
The “flu shot” tends to be variable in it’s effectiveness from year to year. It’s a guessing game the CDC play with those virii. They are/were trying to guess what the vaccine needs to be months in advance. This year it seems they missed a bit and it didn’t work quite as well.
The future seems bleak on having those shots available for the foreseeable future.
Toss in slamming someone in a diplomatic meeting is done with a lot different language than on the street corner and yelling “In your face!”
Historically, yes they are. They are the ones with nothing left to lose except their lives. And are more likely to revolt. Anyone with a couch and xbox isn’t nearly the threat to those in power. I believe that’s called ‘Bread and Circuses’
Except the part where there was NO militia when the amendment was conceived, written and passed. Everyone, (well every male), was “the militia”. Formal or not. And if you actually look closely at the military organization of the US, you would see that it’s still the same today. There are layers to the US army. And it goes down to you as you walk around on the street.
Yes it is. But unless YOU personally are willing to risk death, then it means little. The magas seem reasonably content at the moment. And progressives aren’t willing to give up the comforts of life either. Nor are they actually interested in getting their hands dirty by running for any office either. They mostly prefer to whinge on line rather than do much beyond complaints and yard signs.
If and when people are homeless and starving and believe they have no other alternative, then they might pick up a gun. But that point in time isn’t here yet.
I haven’t used an abacus in a very long time, but I haven’t forgotten how to use one. I still have a slide rule that I can still use if I have to, (I come from a time before pocket calculators). I used to race the the younger kids in my classroom to see who could do simple math problems faster-- me and the slide rule or them and a calculator. And my rule in class was that there were no calculators. Well, using fingers was acceptable. Because I wanted you to get your hands dirty playing with the numbers. If you wanted a calculator for a test, I would offer you a slide rule.
As a working adult, you must be proficient will the tools your occupation has. And not just the tools you wish you have. If you are running servers in a Windows based environment, it doesn’t do you any good to wish for Linux based servers. And you better be good with both Windows and Linux if the environment is mixed. And a professional doesn’t complain about their tools, they just use the ones they have to accomplish the job at hand. Of course, if you have the money and power to do the choosing and purchasing of the tools you prefer and want, then by all means buy them. But I doubt that’s the case for you.
Perhaps. But despite using Windows, you got the job done, right? Life is all about using the tools do have, rather than the ones you wished you had.

To be serious, Windows and that mouse are just tools-- same as any Linux distro is. A means to an end. Nothing more. There is nothing to be miffed about when you need to use that tool. Be proficient with all your tools. And when you need to use a tool, don’t be concerned about comparing it to the other tools. It diminishes you skills with that tool and and offers no gain to the solution.
I used to teach math in the local school. The kids had a great interest in 3D printing because I had a few fun items in my classroom that I had 3D printed. I decided to spend a couple of weeks teaching a bit of CAD through having the kids spend it designing a personalized key chain to print.
It took me 3 days of class time to teach them how to use a mouse…They couldn’t grasp the idea that a touch screen and CAD don’t go together, you need that mouse to make it work. It quickly became apparent that things quickly became difficult for them if it doesn’t have a touch screen.
And while some classes are always a bit better than others, there was always a noticeable number of them that struggled with using a mouse.
Kudos? She benefits financially from this little virtue signal.
First she’s going to pick up some new fans that will buy her music, plus the publicity also has monetary value to her. And secondly, because she donated the proceeds of the sale of the car to NPR, she gets to write off the donation from her taxes to benefit financially yet again. Nor does she need to worry about someone vandalizing her property, which would cost her money to repair.
Just another profitable day for a person with a $70 million net worth.

Still, those early adopters weren’t the people making $45,000 a year. It’s not like they can/could afford a new $60,000 car. Anybody buying a Tesla is solidly upper middle class. And often are DINO’s politically. And they can live comfortably if they aren’t too busy trying to maintain an image.
