He represents nebraska’s 2nd district, a district where the majority voted for biden and harris. He is known for being a moderate republican who is noted for working bipartisanly. He retained his seat by a narrow 50.9%:49.1% margain.

Basically he’s one of the most likely republicans to support something like this. And if viewed purely cynically, with the slim margin of victory, he has an incentive to introduce bills to nowhere like this use for the upcoming 2026 reelection campaign.

Until this bill gets cosponsors or goes for a floor vote, it doesn’t indicate a breaking of ranks. He’s the kind of republican who often goes against the party line.

The rich have more assets and income sources and have staff who do a bunch of financial chicanery to try to hide their tax evasion. Auditing the rich requires significantly more work than the poor.

These decisions are not about doing what makes sense. The IRS is a revenue generator. Spending money on the IRS brings in significantly more money in unpaid taxes than it costs.

The goal is not to do what’s best for the government’s budget. Its really about ensuring that their criminal friends can continue to get away with it.

It would be very different. It would be a place without diplomacy. Agreeing to not attack diplomats is the most important prerequisite for diplomacy.

If you can’t send someone to talk things out then war is the first and only way for nations to resolve any conflict. I don’t think you want to live in that world.

Activism works. Resistance works. People seem to forget this when we have a president who wears a different colored tie. This is why trump is worse at deportations than biden and obama. Its not for lack of trying.

Democratic presidents are smart enough to do the dirty work of the state quietly and with discretion. Which makes them much more effective.

If you know any undocumented people, make sure they know their rights, and how to resist regardless of who is in office.

He pled not guilty. You don’t plead innocence in court.

He has to prove that he is not guilty of the case brought by the prosecution. That’s what not guilty means. He only has to disprove the specifics of the case brought against him.

Its the procetutor’s job to prove, it is the defendant’s job to disprove.

Pleading not guilty is the right choice. Either his lawyers think he’s not guilty, and this plea lets them beat the charges, or he is guilty and this plea delays the inevitable.

If he pled guilty that would skip the main part of the trial and go straight to sentencing. Pleading guilty is rarely a good idea unless you are making a deal for a reduced sentence.

The problems are systemic and the humans in the system are incentivized to perpetuate the system.

Anyone in the federal legislature can introduce legislation that dies in committee. How exactly would that help? Its not effective obstructionism for a small committee to just ignore your bills every time. Most bills never even get a vote.

You are not proposing an effective strategy.

It takes months if not years for a case to be appealed to the supeme court. They don’t even accept most cases.

Any court federal can issue an order on this if a case is brought. Courts cannot do anything unless asked. That’s kind of how the legal process works. Someone, or some AG will file a suit. Might take a few days or weeks.

it would be, but they are the minority party in the federal legislature. They can’t do the things you’re suggesting on their own. Obstructionism is the best course of action. You’re asking for things they literally can’t do, instead of things they choose not to like normal.

FAA is run by the executive branch. They are subject to laws that have to pass the republican legislature. Not a reasonable option at this point unless republicans start to turn on musk.

Those who could craft or enforce laws against musk right now are the states. If a state could charge musk with a crime and arrest him for it it could stick. The presidential pardon only extends to federal crimes.
