  • There is one animated meme making the rounds now, posing the question on whether viewers would want a bucolic near-communist solarpunk future where everyone is happy and has their needs met, or a 40k future of massive mechs that can level entire cities on their own.

    I say: why not both?

Crunchy outer shell of 40k that is just enough for a healthy defence of humanity, 90+% gooey solarpunk interior that gives everyone else a psychologically healthy and comfortable life.

  • Trump has already been ignoring the rulings of judges. Successfully, I might add. And without any consequences.

This means that the rule of law is now over, and that the constitution is irrelevant and ultimately unenforceable.

This is always the game plan of fascists: to remove from power anyone in a high enough position who would obey legal processes, such that when true opposition occurs, there is no-one left who will enforce the law. Then they can move out into the open, pull down any part of the law or the legal system that they don’t like, and start doing the truly reprehensible stuff.

It’s why they objected to Obama filling that Supreme Court position that opened up (which he had full legal rights to re-fill), so that they could pack it with a crony that they could control, stacking the Supreme Court in their favour. And just look at how corrupt it has become.

Mark my words, shit is going to get really dark within the next six months to a year. Like, concentration camp dark.

  • Virtually every single bad adaptation can be directly traced back to studio interference.

Movies like LoTR only happened because the studios thought it would be a colossal flop, and so left the directors and producers alone.

If you want great movies, the studios need to leave the producers and directors the hell alone.

  • Why not a national police force, such that a disgraced cop can’t just mosey on to the next town over and get hired there?

One of the big problems with America is that it is so frictionless for cops to just city-hop whenever they fuck up.

At least in Canada, with the RCMP being in most cities and towns, it is damn difficult for any RCMP officer to job-hop. Especially when the RCMP is a clear cut above in training, and anyone who tries to job-hop from them to a city cop will be intensely questioned as to why they are downgrading so significantly.

Yes, the RCMP has some pretty bad apples; power doesn’t corrupt so much as it attracts the corruptible like flies to excrement. And the RCMP gives its officers plenty of power, for sure.

But in just the last few years alone, I have seen RCMP officers disciplined for behaviour that wouldn’t have even raised an eyebrow in any U.S. police force.
