A total shutdown is far more likely to hurt trump and the Republicans. The Democrats by supporting this are letting certain Republicans oppose it.

The same is also true for liquor, though it’s a state agency that enforces the laws.
Auditing the less wealthy is already automated.
Quorum is largely meaningless in Congress, both houses assume they have quorum at all times. This allows for the pro forma sessions.
Fun fact, that scene was the first audible fart joke in film, so it being censored originally makes a little sense.
Patton was very vocal about continuing on to fight the Soviets. It’s even justification for a conspiracy theory that he was killed for those beliefs.
Discrimination is discrimination. Calling one reverse is an attempt to make it sound less bad.
At some point all the people fired will likely get some money, some may get jobs. It probably takes at least a year for that to happen though.
They need to be somewhat smart though. I find it hard to believe Trump could go 35 years without outing himself.
There isn’t management for these jobs though. The people are the management. Both sides of the table are the same in the public sector.
The secret service protects the president, not musk. If a motorcade of Marshalls showed up at the Whitehouse, it would be in their interest to give him up.
It puts them in the tough spot of declaring Doge essential. That gives a huge opening for the Democrats to attack, when 80% of the government is shut down, that there is meaningful fraud in what Trump kept open. It’s also going to be hard to get someone to come in to unlock things when they aren’t getting paid. Even essential employees don’t get paid in a shutdown, they get back pay after like everyone else when Congress approves it.
There’s a win if the Democrats really want one. Shutting down the government stops Doge, and cuts more than musk could ever dream of. They can frame it as Republicans trying to spend money and Democrats being about responsibility. Make it about a failure of Trump’s leadership.
It’s a tough line to walk, because a prolonged shutdown would possibly backfire, but it’s probably worth the risk. Shutdowns do tend to hurt the party in power more than the opposition.
This is a way to slam the brakes on Trump and be an opposition party if they have the spine for it.
I dove a bit into the nominations a while ago. Many are qualified, but the ones that aren’t are impressively unqualified.
I don’t think so. This is only possible because it was broadcast media and there are laws about fair use of the airwaves. I’m surprised the 60 minutes suit is still happening though, as Trump declined the offer for an interview.
Beef is dense enough that parasites can’t penetrate the meat, so you only need the outside to be cooked for safety.
Finally common sense gun laws.
If you skip the Superbowl, you could miss tay tay’s engagement.
It’s a common problem with estates though even if 4/5 people want to sell it for whatever they can get, that 1 person can keep it in limbo for a very long time. If there wasn’t a will or trust that explicitly gave someone power (and even if there is in some cases), a few years of nothing happening isn’t actually outside the norm.
