In Seattle it was closer to 3.3%, which is kind of insane.
Make a puppet of Trump and dress up like Putin. Or Musk, if that’s easier.
Put your anger towards those who couldn’t even be bothered to do so.
Why? The election was won and lost in swing states, and voter turnout in swing states was roughly the same in 2024 and 2020.
This take is so boring. There are protests and even direct action all across the States. We’re just getting started. You need to change your media sources if you’re not hearing about what’s going on.
I generally agree, but I also think it depends on the capital. There are definitely losers (in the winning/losing sense) in the business world even just two months into the second Trump regime.
I think you’ll find that many (but not all) successful movements are driven by the potent pairing of a legitimately pissed off populace backed by capital.
Guess who makes the money from the chargers though.
The damage Trump and Musk can do is directly proportional to how fast they can speedrun fascism before they lose the House and maybe the Senate in the midterms. So the main lever that our elected Democratic reprentatives actually have is slowing down that effort in any way they can. That means filibustering, delaying votes, interrupting, shaking canes, getting escorted out, etc etc. Generally throwing sand in the gears of the administration. It’s not just performative, although that’s part of it. It’s to slow-roll the fascism so we have a better chance to fight it.
If you have any spare time, even half an hour here or there, go to protests. Connect with like-minded folks.
Here’s the relevant quote from that link: “It’s true that overall turnout fell in much of the country, but in the battleground states that actually decided the presidential election, turnout was roughly where it was from four years ago. And it’s clear as day that a bunch of people changed their minds.”
In swing States (where the election was decided), voter turnout was almost the same in 2024 as in the last presidential election. So you can stop repeating the debunked claim that voters who “stayed home” are to blame for Trump’s victory.
Do you need me to hand-hold you all the way to a protest? Okay, here’s how it works:
Don’t like that idea? Fine. Then find a way to resist that better suits you. But whining on the internet that “there’s nothing that can be done, we are fucked” doesn’t accomplish anything. Part of the goal of this administration is to create an air of inevitability around their gathering power so that people obey in advance. It makes it a whole lot easier for them to be fascists if they don’t have to fight for every scrap of fascism along the way. Don’t let them do that. Don’t obey in advance.
See elsewhere in the comments on this post. The judge can effectively deputize someone other than a Marshall if necessary.
If you think that list of ways to resist are “nothing,” then there’s nothing more I can tell you. Good luck with your sitting around and waiting for violent revolution.
And I never said I was a pacifist. I said it takes multiple types of resistance to effectively counter fascism.
No single thing is going to fix this. It’s going to take a concerted effort of protests and economic boycotts and judges doing their job and elected officials doing their job and the fucking media doing their job and public sentiment souring further on Trump and people refusing to follow unlawful orders and yes maybe even a little direct action. Not all of it is going to work and not all of it has to work. My only point here is we can’t just think there’s a single silver bullet (pun intended) because that breeds inaction for all other forms of resistance. We each need to find a way to resist and do that instead of waiting for somebody who isn’t coming to save the day.
Both. I just think the “oh well we must immediately escalate to bloodshed” people are only serving to worsen the situation because it skips over all the other legitimate ways we have of fighting back, like protest and the courts. Ways that a bigger portion of the populace is willing to participate in (currently). And right now we need everyone who’s reasonable resisting in any way they can.
I mean… What makes you think that’s off the table?
