FWIW - I met a Republican at a wedding this past weekend. If you heard some of the things he said, you’d be right to be scared or offended. However he did take some light teasing and disagreement fairly well, from his family and friends. Most importantly it was clear he was not an overall bad guy, not filed with hatred, but terribly misinformed. He also did not like having his sources questioned nor was he open to looking more closely at his foundations for his beliefs, so ymmv.

So I guess it could go either way but I came out of it thinking he’s a decent guy who is misinformed. I don’t know if it’s possible to get him to examine his sources of belief or question those beliefs or if he’s stuck in that world forever, but at least he’s still good toward friends and family that think differently
