Yup, it was a bug that (to my knowledge) was never patched out of the game. I didn’t discover until much later that there was a mod that rectified it. It only affected truly gigantic cities, but by late-game especially if you were playing as someone like Egypt it was easy to have a bunch of those. Petra and its ilk were always going to be a one-horse town, but Alexandria, Thebes, Tyre, Sidon, etc… all wallowing in excess squalor to the point where I had to station full peasant armies in each to keep them content.

I never thought about mass-recruiting as population control though, that’s clever.

The hammer and sickle is a socialist symbol, of which tankies are a tiny subset, if you’re even using the word correctly (to mean people who unironically support everything authoritarian communist regimes do), which I doubt on the basis of your ‘knowledge’ of socialist symbols. Also I’m an anarchist, and while we have our disagreements, I’ve never been called a liberal by anyone on the left.

He’s on Musk’s payroll, conflicts of interest that benefit Musk do benefit Trump, so I think it’s rather that he only cares when they make him look bad.

Because he said that he wouldn’t be in order to establish that he was in control, so when it comes out that he’s not (which we all knew anyway) he looks weak and stupid. So he’s issuing excuses, only he’s a moron so the excuses make him look even less in control. I hope this is not news to anyone, but Trump does not give a fuck about conflicts of interest as was made abundantly clear by his first term. What he cares about is looking good; specifically in making sure that everyone remembers he is king dick of the universe and Musk is subordinate.

• Obviously he was lying and was going to include him anyway; oligarchs don’t spend that kind of money without making sure they’re getting value for it.
